The name "Pushpaka" derived from the mythical vehicle of Hindu god Vishnu, is the story of one Man's indomitable will power and spirit for adventure to carve a niche in the Indian aviation industry.
In 1969 Pushpaka Aviation Pvt. Ltd. (PAPL) was formed by Late Shri H.P. Rao, a Trivandrum based enterprising insurance agent, struck an opportunity to buy a helicopter in a distress sale, which also gave a destination to his dreams. Pushpaka was the first private company in India to start Scheduled International Passanger flights from Bombay to Sharjah, (U.A.E.) as an associate of the National carrier "Air India" from 1979 to 1983.
We started the operations concentrating on the agriculture sector and which was promoted by our Late, beloved Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi, under the " GROW MORE FOOD CAMPAGIN'' as part of the 20 point program in the early 1970's to boost the agriculture production of the country. Taking advantage of the subsidies given to the farming community our company imported 3 x Bell 47 G 5 helicopters from Bell Helicopter Textron USA, for undertaking agricultural crop spraying throughout the county.
